This is a breakdown on what to wear for dance festivals.

Please come fully dressed with makeup and hair done and be backstage 30 minutes before you are scheduled to dance.

Makeup should be bold and bright: Base, bright lipstick, blush, smokey eyes and eyeliner if possible.

Hair should always be greased back off the face. (No Fringes)

Please wear your Dance Dynamics Jackets or Tees over your costumes. Otherwise a gown or zip up jacket so you don’t mess up your hairstyle. Please note that you are not allowed into the audience in your costumes. You will need to have something over them.

Make sure you have a spare pair of tights in case you get a hole or ladder. Make sure all shoes are clean, even hip hop sneakers.

Please no jewelry including ear rings and watches.

This is how dancers need to arrive at festival. In most cases the rest of the ballet costume will be provided on the day.

Ballet

Hungry Kitten:

Come with hair in a high bun (doesn’t have to be puurrfect as ears will cover the head).

Long pink tights, ballet shoes and if you have a black, white or pink leotard you may wear, otherwise we will provide one.

Rainy Play:

Hair in two plaits with part in the middle.

Long pink tights, ballet shoes and any color leotard.

Red Riding Hood:

Hair in a pony tail.

Leotard, Long pink tights and ballet shoes.

Hawaain:

Hair greased back into either a pony tail or a French plait.

Leotard of any color, no tights or ballet shoes.

Oliver:

Pink ballet tights and leotard. Ballet shoes. Two odd socks and a tee shirt made dirty with makeup. Hair in a bun.

Good Girl Winnie Vorster:

Hair in two plaits with a middle path.

Pink tights, Leotard and ballet shoes. Dresses have been given to dancers.

Czech Polka:

Leotard, character skirt, pink tights and character shoes. Any blouses and bonnets provided by your teacher.

Beauty School Drop Out:

Messy hair off of face with rollers.

Pink tights, ballet shoes and leotard or pajamas for underneath the gown.

Gypsy:

Hair in a bun.

Pink tights and ballet shoes.

Tarantella:

Hair in a French plait.

Leotard and pink ballet tights, pink ballet shoes.

Modern and Acro

For most straight solo’s, unitards are preferable. If a leotard is worn, a pair of dance shorts the same color to be worn over it.

No visible underwear. Grecian honey footless tights or pantyhose with the feet cut off work well as underwear as there are no lines.

Bare feet, footsies or ballet pumps.

For the character dances the costumes have been discussed in class.

Hip Hop

Street wear of your choice. Please make sure you have danced in your outfit in class before the time, as costumes have strange ways of malfunctioning in ways you can’t imagine until you dance in them.

Must wear sneakers with a full sole. No split soles allowed.

Tap

Slicked back hair with a middle path and low ponytail.

Tap dresses or a leotard and skirt.

Grecian honey tights. Make sure they are long enough to go over heel.

White or black short socks and tap shoes.

Character costumes have been discussed in class.
